  • With the increase in the requirements of the infection program in acute rehabilitation hospitals by various levels of regulatory agencies, hiring unexperienced staff or directors can become a very costly and avoidable task.

 

  • Doctors Infection Control Services has over 28 years’ experience with Rehab hospitals and The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in addition to other regulatory agencies, provide a comprehensive infection control specific for Acute Rehabilitation hospitals.

 

  • In the following are some of program activities, but not limited to:

 

  1. Conduct on-going surveillance for infectious diseases present on admission of patients to the hospital or developed after admission. Also, collect vital data relating to infection control activities.

  2. Provide adequate infection control education to hospital employees in the form of new employee orientation, annual infection control updates and other in-services on a continuous basis.

  3. Review, summarize, and trend infection control surveillance data and develop reports to be submitted to the Infection Control Function Meetings and the Quality Improvement Program.

  4. Develop, review and update the hospital’s infection control policies and procedures on an ongoing basis and develop new policies as needed.

  5. Consult with the medical staff, nursing and other hospital departments and provide education and guidance in areas related to infection control and handling patients with infections.

  6. Review all the hospital’s infection control activities and ensure that these activities meet the requirements of regulatory agencies such as The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the accrediting organization e.g. TJC, HFAP, DNV.

  7. Provide education and direction to hospital departments and personnel on employee health issues.

  8. Ensure prompt reporting of reportable diseases to the local health department. In addition, ensure appropriate reporting to the National Health Safety Network (NHSN) following the requirements of the CMS and CDPH. 

  9. Coordinate any programs aimed at preventing infection spread or actions regarded as a follow-up to an exposure of infectious agents.

  10. Conduct infection control and safety rounds to ensure appropriate control measures are in place to prevent infection transmission and endorse patient safety.

  11. Contribute to the patient care planning and antibiotic stewardship team by providing information on the multi drug resistant organisms (MDROs)infections and work with the team to appropriately discontinue anti-infective agents. 

  12. Attend meetings and participate in committee work relevant to infection control and relay all pertinent information to the Infection Control Committee, hospital directors and employees.

  13. Provide appropriate staff support during any regulatory agency survey.
